Do I need planning permission for solar panels in Scotland?
Most domestic roof-mounted solar installations fall under permitted development in Scotland and don’t need planning permission, though listed buildings and conservation areas can have different rules. Your survey will confirm what applies to your property.
How does the Smart Export Guarantee work?
Any electricity your system generates and your battery doesn’t store gets exported to the grid, and your supplier pays you per unit through the Smart Export Guarantee. It’s income, not a subsidy and it stacks on top of your bill savings.
Will a battery really make a noticeable difference?
Yes. Without a battery, surplus daytime generation gets exported for a few pence a unit, and you buy expensive grid electricity again in the evening. A battery stores that surplus and lets you use it after dark instead which is usually the single biggest factor in whether a bill gets reduced or eliminated.
How long does installation take?
